Web3 Communities, Rebooted

Communities have, and always will be, the beating heart of successful web3 projects. Yet fostering genuine engagement it's become a full-time operational burden for teams that didn’t have the necessary tools to coordinate and set in place effective incentives.

That’s why today, we're excited to announce a partnership that addresses this challenge head-on: Aurora and Open Format are teaming up to bring real-time, curated community intelligence to blockchain ecosystems, giving communities the co-pilot that they have needed and transforming how web3 projects identify, nurture, and reward meaningful participation.

What is Open Format?

Open Format has built Intelligent Communities, a platform where you can deploy your community co-pilot, an agent with all the tools and knowledge to help you coordinate, recognise and reward your community.

Your co-pilot will take the time to deeply understand your community: your goals, the events you run, the way your community operates, the actions you want to see more of and so much more. With this information it will cut through the noise of Discord servers and Telegram chats to identify the contributions that are truly valuable to your community, allowing you to reward those users in just a single click, or you can even automate this whole process and let your co-pilot do the heavy lifting.

Over time as your community evolves, and you and your co-pilot learn more and more, these reward recommendations will evolve too, keeping up to speed with your latest features, events and initiatives.

"Most crypto communities struggle with the same issues – how do you know who's actually adding value versus who's just making noise?" explains Andy Kitt, Open Format’s co-founder and lead engineer. "We're creating systems that make this transparent and rewarding in ways that actually matter."

This is a completely different way to approach rewarding your community. An intelligent, adaptive and community-first approach that comes at a critical time when web3 projects are seeking sophisticated ways to build sustainable communities beyond basic token incentives.

How This Partnership Actually Works

Open Format is making it easier for Aurora-based projects to build effective community systems by integrating directly with Aurora's Virtual Chains. By request, Open Format can be deployed onto any Aurora Virtual Chain, giving owners a powerful community co-pilot for their apps and users.

With this integration projects can:

  • Create and distribute tokens, points and badges as recognition for contributions which are valuable to the community
  • Chat to their community co-pilot to learn about what has been going on in their community and to summarise key topics and conversations
  • Receive a weekly impact report from their co-pilot covering valuable insights including what the community is excited and frustrated about
  • Create a branded community hub where members can see their position on the leaderboard, their journey within the community, the badges they have earned and much more
  • Work with their co-pilot to reward their community members in a way which completely aligns with the goals and intentions of the community

Additionally, Open Format has launched its own dedicated virtual chain to support cross-chain community coordination. This approach cuts down on infrastructure complexity while allowing projects to recognize contributions from multiple chains and platforms, all within the Aurora ecosystem.

From conference floor to live campaign

This partnership wasn't born in a boardroom. The teams connected at Token2049 when Open Format’s founders met Nick Symeou, BD manager at Aurora and started talking about the challenges of building a thriving crypto community.

"What impressed us most about Aurora is that they actually want to build together, not just sign partnership papers," said Sarah, Open Format’s CEO. "Their team gets that the tech only matters if it solves real problems for real users. This is what we’re all about"

The partnership quickly delivered results with the TURBO Campaign – a live builder event that drew 5,000+ viewers across platforms. Builders created onchain rewards without code, while a manual system recognized meaningful contributions. This first demonstration showed how rewarding actual building over engagement farming creates more sustainable communities, laying groundwork for future AI-driven coordination and further collaboration.

What’s Next

Aurora’s community manager, Marco, has been hands-on testing Open Format’s co-pilot within the Aurora ecosystem — rolling out Kudos points, custom programmes for Ambassadors and Beta testers, and more. Read more here.

And this is just the beginning.

Coming soon: onboarding agents that guide every new member into the community and show them exactly how they can contribute. Smart task-matching that connects the right opportunities with the right people. Onchain skill trees that map out growth paths for every user. Even a co-pilot that can suggest and launch tailored campaigns for your community — autonomously.

All of this will be live on Aurora’s Virtual Chains.
